Windows 7 slated for tablet success?

There is a lot of buzz today around a few Windows 7 tablet announcements. One of the questions surrounding Microsoft and its tablet PC strategy is how a fully-fledged PC operating system is going to look and feel when you've only got a pane of glass to play on.

Maybe something this concept from UI design specialist UI Centric?

Or the MasterPad from Pegatron, leaked today on an Israeli blog? Here's the video of something very similar-looking from January:

They look pretty good, don't they? With so much Apple and Android hype, it's often easy to forget that Microsoft has more than 90% of the PC operating system market and a quarter of the console space. Marry that to a suitably pad-friendly interface and you've got some potential.

Will Microsoft's entry into slate-shaped computing (and innovative partners like in the videos above) finally push tablets into the mainstream?
