Flip: It's no good just inventing a niche, you've got to fill it too (featuring @tacanderson)

So, Cisco is shutting down it's Flip video business. At first I thought it was a great shame - we have a few Flips in the office that we use a lot, both for client events and when intra-team Nerf wars break out.

But then I remembered something. When it came to buying one with my own money, I did my research and ended up getting a Creative Vado. It looked better, shot better-quality footage, and cost less.

This is where Flip fell down. It may have created the niche (and the Hoover-style generic device name to go with it) but failed to innovate. Tac sums it up nicely (via his Flip):
